UWC Nigeria follows a thorough and well-rounded selection process to identify motivated and talented young individuals who align with UWC’s values and mission.

Application Stage
Step One: Application Fee & Payment
The first step is to pay the application fee. Once you have made the payment, please send a clear copy of the receipt, along with your full name, to our official email address: [email protected]. After confirming your payment, we will send you the full application materials and the next steps. Please note confirmation takes 24 – 72 hours.
The application fee is based on the applicant type
General Applicants (applying independently, including from private, international, or unsubsidized public schools) are required to pay ₦20,000.
- Students applying independently, without nomination from a public school.
- May attend private, international, or public schools (without nomination).
- Responsible for completing the application independently or with family support.
Public school nominees (those nominated by their school principal or counsellor) are eligible for a reduced fee of ₦5,000
- Must be currently enrolled in a public (government-owned) secondary school in Nigeria.
- Must be nominated by the school principal or counselor, by sending a brief endorsement or cover letter to [email protected].
The key difference in General Applicants and Public School Nominees lies in formal school nomination and fee structure, not in eligibility for the UWC program. Both categories are assessed equally in terms of merit, leadership potential, and fit for UWC values.

Once you have made the payment, send a clear copy of the receipt along with your full name to our official email

Step Two: Submission
After receiving the forms, please prepare the following documents and submit them to
- A completed UWC Nigeria Application Form
- A completed Means Questionnaire
- A handwritten autobiographical essay (maximum 350 words)
- Prompt: “Please write a short autobiography including information about yourself, your family, community involvement, spare-time activities, and what you hope to do in the future.”
- One recent passport photograph (attached to the form)
- Academic results:
- SSCE/NECO/IGCSE certificate, or
- Two years of academic transcripts (SS1 and SS2 or Grades 9 and 10)
- Proof of age: Birth certificate issued by the National Population Commission (NPC) or equivalent in other countries where you hold dual citizenship
- Principal’s Reference Form and Letter: Must be sent directly by the school to [email protected] (A class teacher’s recommendation is optional but encouraged.)
- Confidential School Report: Must also be sent directly by the school to [email protected]
- Parent/Guardian documentation: Letter of Introduction from Parent’s Employer and/or Most recent Tax Certificate

Interview Stage
Shortlisted applicants will be contacted directly by the Nigerian National Committee for the final stage of the selection process, the national interview. Interview details will be communicated to successful applicants only.
Nomination Stage
After selections, the National Committee nominates the most promising candidates for placement at UWC schools and colleges. Successful applicants will:
- Receive an offer for a UWC placement, which may be fully or partially funded depending on demonstrated need (all applicants will be requested to submit financial information to this effect).
- Have the opportunity to accept or decline the nomination.
- Complete necessary paperwork and preparations for enrollment.
